She married Benny Carter on February 19, 1966 at the Assembly of God Church in Sebewaing. Betty enjoyed being a homemaker and raising her 3 children. The absolute greatest thing to happen to her is when she received a grandson, Braden.

Schubel of Port Hope, Michigan, died at the age of 88 on December 14, 2022. He was born July 24, 1934 at Hubbard Memorial Hospital in Bad Axe, Michigan, the son of Ted H. He graduated from Port Austin High School in 1951, attended Alma College, received his bachelor’s degree from the Detroit Institute of Technology, and his law degree from the Detroit College of Law.

She attended Benton Harbor High School, studied at Lake Michigan College and graduated from Western Michigan University with both a Bachelor of Arts and a Master of Arts in Education. She went on to marry Tom Howe in December of 1968 before moving to Tacoma, WA where Tom was stationed at Fort Lewis. Eventually they moved back to Benton Harbor, and established their home in Higman Park. Nancy taught first grade at Hull Elementary School for 30 years before retiring in 2000 and was passionate about education. In December of 1991, Tom and Nancy bought the North Shore Inn and embarked on the adventure of a lifetime for 25 years before selling in 2016.

The highlight of his caddying career was when he twice carried the bag of two-time Masters champion Horton Smith.
